Koutz runs to 2017 TVC West League Champion

The lady Marauders traveled to Ithaca Michigan to complete in the final league jamboree hosted by Ithaca High School on Tuesday October 10th. The team was working to secure a fourth place finish but fell short to finish in Fifth Place overall for the season. Emme Koutz and Karlee Willaford secured first team all-conference and honorable mention honors respectively for their efforts this fall.

Sophomore Emme Koutz ran a close race edging out Ithaca’s Abi Whitford by 3/10 of a second to become the 2017 Tri-Valley West League Champion with a 19:22.4. She becomes the first Ovid-Elsie girls cross country runner to become league champion in school history. “It was very interesting watching Emme control the race and edge out Abi to secure the victory” Coach Ekel replied. “She executed the plan exactly like we planned, I’m so proud of her and her teammates for their efforts today”.

The team had four other girls run their personal bests for the season and some careers. Senior Aubrey Hurst, Junior Grace Harrow, Sophomores Leah Gruber and Ashley Pumford all ran to their personal bests. The rest of the team was near or at their bests for the season.

The team with compete in the Greater Lansing Cross Country Championships on Saturday October 14th at the Ledge Meadows Golf Course in Grand Ledge, Michigan. The lady Marauders will on run at 10am followed by the boys at 10:50am. This event hosts some of the best cross country runners in the state going head to head.
