Game Recap

I’m unbelievably proud of this team. We ran into a potential state champion in Flint Powers tonight and this team did not give up. We played hard and gave Powers everything that we had. The defense played well all night and made it hard for their offense to get anything going. Goalkeeper Mason Rulison made several key saves to keep things close. Seniors Carter Davisson and Brandon Swender were able to help ignite our attack but we just couldn’t get close enough. I just want to thank all of the seniors (Mason Rulison, Brandon Swender, Soren Astle, Gavin Barnhill, Joey McGroarty, Carter Davisson, & Nick Dahlke) for everything they have done for the program in their four years. And I’d like to thank all of the parents, families, and all of the other supporters for helping push these kids to see their potential and for all of their support this season.

What an inspired game we played. It was fun watching. Pinconning added to it with a very enthusiastic crowd and we countered with the same. We again had a great serving game with 13 aces total and serve receive was brilliant going 35-36. I am so happy for the kids as it secured a 4th place finish in the league and that is the highest we have been since entering the TVC in 2007.

Game Recap

It’s difficult to win games in high school soccer. And it’s difficult to make it to a district final. We’ve been very fortunate to win a lot of games in the past two seasons and I’m happy to say that we’re fortunate to make it to back to back district finals. We played well tonight on a larger field. We moved the ball well and had many shot attempts while again limiting Byron to minimal chances. Chris Zruna recorded a hat trick with one assist tonight with Carter Davisson recording three assists on all of Zruna’s goals. Calen Byrnes finished with two goals and an assist and Ethan Byrnes recorded a goal and an assist as well. We face a tough opponent in Flint Powers for the district title. But If we come ready to play and give our best effort, we can give them a fight and win a title.

Goals:

MIN 2: Chris Zruna – Assist: Carter Davisson (OE)
MIN 26: Calen Byrnes – Assist: Chris Zruna (OE)

Koutz finishes fourth at Tri-Valley Conference Championships

The Ovid-Elsie Cross Country teams hosted the Tri-Valley Championships on Tuesday October 17th on their home course at Uncle Johns Cider Mill in St. Johns, Michigan on a sunny but windy day. Twenty two schools completed to find out who is the best between the three divisions of the conference.

Frankenmuth High School ran away with the girl’s race followed by Shepherd and Alma. Ovid-Elsie finished 17th out of 18 complete teams beating only Millington High School to round out the 2017 season and the last competition in the Tri-Valley Conference as they are moving to the newly formed Mid-Michigan Activities Conference next year.

Emme Koutz finished fourth overall and earned First Team All-Conference Honors for her efforts. She was followed by teammates Karlee Willaford, Tristin Ziola, Aubrey Hurst, Amber Surinck and Ashley Pumford.

The Marauders travel to Corunna on Saturday October 21st to take part in the Shiawassee County Cross Country Championships hosted by Corunna High School. The races will be held at the high school and begin at 9am.

Game Recap

Survive and advance. That saying is generally left for March Madness basketball. But today we used that saying to full effect. I thought we played okay in the first half. It took us a little bit to get going but defensively we were still able to keep Corunna from getting any good looks on net. Our goal was scored by Carter Davisson from a Joey McGroarty corner kick. I thought Carter played an overall great game tonight. The second half I thought we dominated possession and still limited the offense of Corunna. The moral of the story is that we survived and we advance to the second round of districts against Byron. We must step our game up if we want to continue our run.

It was nice to get a split in the 5 Team Leslie Tournamnet. Most of our struggles were passing consistantly. We did attack the ball much better and showed a bit more aggressiveness in our last two games we won.
