The junior varsity girls basketball team takes down Valley Lutheran on the road 34-31. The Marauders jumped out to an early lead in the 1st quarter behind great post play of Allison Reppenhagen and Tristin Ziola. The Chargers fought back and forced several turnovers in the 2nd quarter as the Marauder offense went stale to take the 17-12 halftime lead. The Marauders came out and played great defense in the 3rd quarter holding Valley Lutheran to just two points. In the 4th quarter, it was all Ovid-Elsie as we got scoring from seven different players in the quarter. After tying the game at 26-26, Madison Cunningham found Chloe Taylor who hit the go ahead 3-pointer. The Chargers fought back and tied it up with free throws, and this time, Taylor found Cunningham streaking up the sideline that led to the go ahead bucket. The Chargers tied it up a 3rd time and after two offensive rebounds by Cunningham, she was fouled and sank both freethrows to give Ovid-Elsie the lead for good. Kusnier was fouled with 9.2 seconds left and knocked down her first free throw and the Marauder defense held on to the 3-point victory. The marauders had seven players score in the game. Cunningham and Reppenhagen had 10 each, Rademacher and Larson each had 4, Taylor had 3, Ziola 2, and Kusnier had 1. With the Marauders winning two in a row, they have brought their season record to 7-7. The Marauders host St. Charles on Thursday, February 8, at 6:00 pm at home.
