OE traveled to league leader Byron Tuesday night for an MMAC match up that didn’t turn out to be much of a contest. Byron turned away the Lady Marauder 53-27.
The Marauders failed to score a point in the opening stanza while giving up 15 to the Eagles and it was 21-0 before OE got on the board.
“We had our chances,” Head Coach Ryan Cunningham said. “We missed several layups and four free throws in the opening quarter. Combine that with a few turnovers and we took ourselves out of the game.”
Kylee Sevenski led OE with 8 points while Lauren Barton (11 rebounds) and Erin Witt (6 assists and 8 steals) each scored 4 points. Kylie Visger, Caitlyn Walter and Kierah Darling each added 3 points while Madison Cunningham added 2 points. Visger also added 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
OE committed 18 turnovers but assisted on 9 of 10 baskets. The Marauders could only manage 19.6% shooting from the floor and 27.3% from the free throw line. OE was able to grab 14 steals on 21 Byron turnovers but were dominated on the boards 36-23.
OE drops to 7-6 (5-4 MMAC) while Byron improved to 8-2 and remains undefeated in the conference.
OE will travel to Durand on Friday. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and may be played at the Middle School due to problems at their High School gym.
