The Ovid-Elsie girls cross country team began the 2018 campaign on August 27th at the Corunna Early Bird held at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds competing in the small school division. The day brought hot and humid weather on a hilly 3.1 mile repeat course that affected many runners sending them to the hospital with heat exhaustion.
The race was won by Byron with 34 points followed by Laingsburg with 68 points and Durand in third with 131 points. The division had nine teams finish the race. Ovid-Elsie did not score as a team as the heat took out two of their five runners competing in the race which requires five to finish. Junior Emme Koutz finished second overall with a 21:31, followed by Sophomore Tristin Ziola with a 28:20 and newcomer Freshmen Sam Grubaugh with a 28:37.
The ladies next competition is the Marauder Invitational on September 5th at Uncle Johns Cider Mill in St. Johns, Michigan. Races start at 4:30pm with the Middle School race and then every 30 minutes afterwards. Ovid-Elsie will run at 5:30pm.
