O-E Marauders lost the lead late in a 5-3 defeat to St. Johns on Saturday in the opening game of the St. Johns Invitational. The game was tied at three with St. Johns batting in the bottom of the fifth when Colton Powell doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring the go ahead run. The Redwings would tack on an insurance run in the sixth to close out the scoring.
O-E Marauders got things moving in the first inning, when Jakob Loynes doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring the first run of the game. Loynes and Cayleb Carman would both score when Aaron Hurst laced a two-out single to centerfield. Unfortunately, that would be all the Marauders could muster in the game.
Alex George led the Redwings to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He allowed four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out six and walking zero. Caden Davis threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Hunter Bukantis took the loss for the Marauders. He went five innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking zero.
Aaron Hurst led Ovid-Elsie with two hits in three at bats.
The loss drops the Marauders to 9-8 overall.
