The Marauders fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-1 loss to Chesaning on Monday.
Chesaning opened up the scoring in the first inning, when they took advantage of a couple Marauder miscues to plate four runs in the first inning. The Marauders managed to cut the lead to 4-1 in the fourth on an RBI single from Ben Maynard but that would be as close as they would get. The Indians answered with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and with two runs in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Trent Devereaux got the start for Chesaning. He went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out five to get the win. Devon Stringhum was on the hill for the Marauders and took the loss. He surrendered four runs on four hits over three innings, striking out two. Adam Allport threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Ben Maynard went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Ovid-Elsie at the plate. Jakob Loynes and Chris Zruna had the other two hits for Ovid-Elsie.
The loss drops the Marauders to 10-9 overall and 4-5 in league play.
