Despite the loss, this was an amazing game to be a part of. Lake Fenton is a tremendous team and earned the district title. We threw everything we had at them and it just wasn’t enough. They were the better team in the first half, but we came out strong in the second half and had them on their heels for a while. Our Lady Marauders fought until the very end and left everything and a bit more on the field. Each of our girls put forth a tremendous effort and I could not be more proud, I wish I could mention everyone. We fought for 50/50 balls and challenged everything. However, our starting seniors played especially well tonight and I want to recognize them specifically for their efforts, because they will be sadly missed. Vivian Cole had one of the best games of her career, she was able to notch a goal and an assist tonight against a tough defense, she was all over the field. Madilyn Bancroft was a huge key to our success tonight. Fenton was very dangerous in the middle of the field, but Madilyn fought valiantly all night long, her efforts and defense helped to slow down a dangerous attack. Micayla Coleman had an outstanding game on defense as well, she refused to let the attack by her and helped support our offense. Finally, senior Kylee Sevenski, our defender turned forward turned midfielder and back to defender helped to keep our back line in tact. She had more non-goalie saves than Kusnier had saves and our goalie Alexis Kusnier, who played great, had a lot of saves. Kylee’s willingness to block shots shows off her toughness, intelligence, and commitment to the team.
As a coach, this was a very special season for me, because of how this team bonded and played together. Everyone involved with this team shared in a lot of laughs and a lot of wins. I feel truly blessed to be the coach of this team. Thank you to our parents and fans who came out tonight and throughout this season to support us. And thank you to my assistant coach and friend Justin Fluharty for his continued support of me, this team, and our entire youth program.
